The client wanted to formalise van sites in areas that had typically suffered from being boggy and wet. This would allow for better amenity and more paying guests within the park. Using concrete across the whole area was not an option as permeability was still required to meet the council conditions and to allow the existing tree canopy to remain in place.
The client had experience in Concrete and extended the existing access road to match the original park roads and also added the concrete annex bays.
Challenges
To increase the amenity of visitors to the site and provide all weather access particularly for long term tenants, whilst maintaining the existing tree canopy, not increasing the impervious area beyond the roadways and being able to maintain costs by doing some of the work themselves.
Our Approach
TRUEGRID Pro Plus S Flex 48 was chosen by the client to deliver a drive on surface that allowed water to infiltrate in and be directed to drain areas.
The TRUEGRID Pro Plus S Flex 48 is designed to carry the loads of 4 wheel drive vehicles towing vans, and allowed for the most economical site preparation, limiting excavation and thus removal of spoil off site, reducing the quantity of subgrade required, allowing for easy transition with existing slabs and suitable to be filled with an angular river pebble, which was decorative in nature and allowed for safe and easy access for all users
Implementation
The client engaged the contractor to prepare the site. This involved the use of a compacted CBR material, areas that were to be bounded by grass had a treated pine edge installed. The finished level was set for the depth of the TRUEGRID to be flush with the top of the Concrete Road and Annex Apron.
The TRUEGRID was then placed on the sub grade to fill in the space prior to the angular pebble being installed.
Outcome
Pyramid Caravan Park has created a long-term low maintenance permeable hardstand area that provides easy access for cars and vans, with guests enjoying the mud free access.
